- Nearly all the ten provinces and three territories have their own PNP programs that are being used to attract and select qualified workers and entrepreneurs who may play an important role in the continued prosperity of their region. Altogether, there are more than 80 different provincial nominee programs out of which you have to identify the one that best suits you. Under this program, an intense assessment of your education, language proficiency, skills and work experience is performed. Applications that fulfil the criteria and meet the specific labor market needs of a province with their skill set are nominated. Once the province and territory authorities approve your PNP application, your next step is to apply for permanent residence in the allotted window period.
Step-by-Step guide to applying to a Canadian PNP:
- Choose the PNP that is right for you: Check the list of all the provinces and territories to determine where you would like to immigrate. Make sure to thoroughly study the requirements for each PNP and thereafter assess your eligibility.
- Apply directly to your chosen province. If your application is successful, you will get a provincial nomination certification.
- All the PNP nominated candidates must apply for permanent residency applications to the Canadian Federal Government. After conducting your background check the Federal Government will grant you Canadian PR. If your chosen PNP is aligned with Express Entry, you can do this online. If not, you must submit a paper-based application.
- The processing time may vary in each province, but it typically takes a few months for your application to be processed. Since each province is running its own programs, keeping a regular check on the PNPs, their opening dates, time window and eligibility criterial is extremely important.
